About the Workshop:
In this workshop, Donna will demonstrate and discuss methods and ideas that will help you turn ordinary subjects into creative and personal paintings. Our theme will be how creative can you make it? And the focus will be on composition, creative color, and a personal and imaginative use of the elements and principles of design.
Other Workshop Topics Include:
- Seeing subjects with an artist’s eyes
- Structuring paintings
- Adding the “you” factor to your paintings
- Improvisational painting
- Developing a personal visual language
- Exploring watercolor’s full potential as a
- transparant and opaque medium
All skill levels are welcome. Students will work from their own reference materials (photos, sketches, still life set-ups etc.).
About the Artist:
Donna Zagotta is a nationally recognized artist, teacher and juror. She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and Midwest Watercolor Society. Her work appears in numerous books and magazines including Watercolor Magazine (Spring, 2006), The Artist’s Magazine (cover and feature, March 2001), International Artist Magazine (feature, June/July 2002), Northlight Books’ Splash Series 1,2,4,7,8, and Watercolor Expressions (cover). She was selected for Watercolor Magic Yearbook’s “Ones to Watch” in 2001 and Watermedia Focus Magazine’s “An Artist Worth Noting”.
Donna’s paintings have evolved from an early emphasis on traditional watercolor techniques and traditionally influenced realism to an unconventional use of the watercolor medium and the exploration of the area that lies between realism and abstraction.
