About the Workshop:
Create colorful floral and dynamic landscape paintings using an improvisational approach to painting that capitalizes on the natural free-flowing characteristics of watercolor. Demonstrations will show ways to take advantage of the happy accidents that occur in this method. Techniques presented include the wet into wet approach, glazing, negative shape-making, use of gouache and collage in combination with watercolor. Using your own photos or sketches learn to create expressive watercolor paintings that are alive with exciting color, patterns and textures. If you are looking for a new direction to energize your paintings, this workshop open to all levels of experience will be just what you have been looking for.

About the Artist:
Joan McKasson is a nationally recognized watercolor painter, juror and an enthusiastic, inspirational instructor of creative watercolor and watermedia workshops. Her paintings find their base in the reaction to free-flowing pigments and the abstract patterns created in this approach. She teaches workshops throughout the U.S. and internationally. McKasson is a signature member of Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and an elected member of the San Diego Artists Guild. An award winning artist, she has exhibited in national and international exhibitions. Her paintings are included in Finding Your Visual Voice, The Best of Watercolor 2, Best of Flower Painting 2, The Artistic Touch 1, 2 & 3, Basic Flower Painting and The New Spirit of Watercolor. The Artist's Magazine May 2002 article, "A Flowering of Talent" featured her free-flowing improvisational approach to painting. McKasson's article in the September 2005 issue of the American Artist Magazine, "Think in Black and White. Paint in Color" describes her painting process.
