Watercolor Figures: Bringing Design and Intuition Together
Nov 8-9 (2-day, Sat-Sun)
9:30 am to 3:30 pm
Fee: $225      Member: $200

About the Workshop:Many of us as artists want to find ways to throw off the chains of doubt and paint figures fast and loose - boldly, from the gut - and still end up with accomplished paintings. Rich teaches structure and approaches that allow you to do just that. He reviews design principles and approaches of the masters and a few of his own which, when built into your painting plan from the outset, enable you to paint in a rapid, intuitive mode. In Rich’s course, sink your teeth into the fundamentals of composition, value, focal point management, background integration, and tension between shape and line. Demystify the handling of the figure. Then, within a solid framework, paint with a freedom and sense of confidant experimentation you may have never known before.Bring your own reference materials (photos or life drawings) or work from those of the instructor.

About the Artist:One writer said “Hawk paints strong, bold, direct female images that leave a visual imprint… His works are full of new ideas that confirm that breaking free is a creative statement.” Drawing on the classic treatments of the figure, his studies of ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints, and images of dance and theatre, Rich makes arresting statements of the human form. His work has been shown  and awarded in many national and international exhibitions, and he is in demand as a workshop instructor and painting demonstrator. His teaching style is energetic and compassionate. He stresses a positive creative process that leads naturally to good art.
